Thanks for checking out Community Alternatives to Violence and our blog! Based out of Martinsburg, West Virginia, we are the area’s only licensed Batterer Intervention Prevention Program and serve Berkeley, Jefferson, and Morgan counties. Yearly we serve an estimated 200 people, including men, women, and teenagers who have been involved in a domestic violence situation and who have been charged with domestic violence. This includes family violence, interpersonal violence, and intimate partner violence. We also serve those individuals where there is a history of violence known to the referring agency without any criminal charges or family protection orders.
We provide 32 sessions in respectful relationships, using a psycho-educational group approach for men and women in gender-specific groups, and follow a curriculum approved by the WV Family Protection Services Board.
Our new blog, Respectfully Yours, is intended to provide a unique, intimate perspective on the individuals we serve and their stories. Many of our group participants undergo a phenomenal change in their thinking and belief systems throughout the course of the classes, and we wanted to be able to take some of their stories and make them more public for those interested in learning more about what we do. We believe that we can end domestic violence, one home at a time, and we hope that some of our stories from participants will help bring that work to light within our community.
Thank you for taking the time to visit! We always welcome feedback and questions, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment or reach out!
